3 Things That Change When You’re a Parent

No matter how many films you watch or books that you read, nothing can prepare you for what to expect once you become a parent. From sleep regressions to the seemingly endless feedings, you’ll have your work cut out for you.

However, beyond the unfathomable workload, you’ll also find that you change as a person. With parenthood comes a new you, and a total transformation of life as you once knew it. So, what changes can you expect? Here are some of the most common changes that people experience once they have kids.

You Worry More

When you’re young, you think that you’re invincible. There’s no mountain tall enough to hold you back. You most likely didn’t put on your seatbelt on every time you got in a car, and you probably didn’t read warning labels. However, when you become a parent, you start to become aware of all of the things that could go wrong at any given moment.

Don’t be surprised if you find yourself staying up a little later than usual worrying about being injured in an accident or something happening to your baby. It’s part of being a parent!

Time Management

Before babies, it’s totally feasible to take a shower, put on makeup, do your hair, and get dressed in under an hour. You may even have time to change your outfit a few times. However, when you have kids, your routine will be thrown for a loop.

In addition to getting yourself ready, you also have to dress someone else and make sure that you pack everything you may possibly need.

There are all sorts of unforeseen disasters that can strike with young children. You never know when they may poop their pants right as you’re about to walk out the door or spill something on themselves in the middle of getting ready. The only way to survive the challenge that kids put on your schedule is to make sure that you give yourself plenty of time to get ready!

Finances

Most people in their twenties spend money freely without worrying about how to pay their bills. If you saw a nice shirt at the store, you would buy it without worrying about how you’d put food on the table. If you wanted to go out for dinner, you’d go. However, when you have kids, every penny that you spend needs to be taken into consideration.

You have diapers to pay for, rent and bills to cover, and before you know it, college to pay for! As a parent spending freely on anything you want is no longer an option. Instead of buying yourself a new pair of boots, you spend your money on formula!

On top of that I was blogging about my family, travels, and home whenever I could squeeze in some downtime and as a means of additional income. While I’ve always loved both jobs and never wanted to let either of them go, I finally made a change in my life. Read More…
